This value represents the total number of gates open at 6 am each day. Gate openings are often adjusted within a day, but the data is not updated to reflect these changes. Therefore on many days, the figure shown does not accurately indicate the average number of open gates over a 24 hour period. Fishway openings are not shown and these generally remain open whenever possible. The resultant flow through the barrages is difficult to calculate in near real time as it is significantly affected by lake level, tide and wind conditions.
